Dexta Daps: ‘Trilogy’ Album

‘Trilogy’, the latest release by Dexta Daps, is a mix of genres, styles, topics and collaborations that work. The 16-track album featured accompanying acts such as Masicka (“OK”), Chronic Law (“Friendship Sale”), Rally Banks (“Wuk Fi Mine”), Jada Kingdom (“Purge”), and Alaine (“See It Yah”). Qyor, Bounty Killer and Jahshii are also credited as supporting the album. ‘Trilogy’ was released by Dexta Daps Music Group.

Dexta really steps out in this collection. He is most widely-known for songs for the ladies, and these are always appreciated and fill a considerable number of spots on the album. However, Daps also deals with love, friendships, badness, dating double standards, and showers of blessings. The clean version is also available so everyone can have a listen.

It is amazing to witness Daps’ growth as a well-rounded singer, songwriter and performer. I was one who thought his musical maturity would not see much development any time soon, but over the years I have been proven wrong by the variety of works he has been able to apply himself to. This album is a notable example of modern Caribbean music.

Kevin Downswell: ‘Grace’ and ‘The Shift’ Albums

In June 2023, internationally-acclaimed gospel singer Kevin Downswell released two discs: ‘Grace (Brought Me Here)’ and ‘The Shift’. Exclusively distributed by Integrated Music Rights, both discs show various sides of the worshipper that Downswell is known to be. The more-promoted album, ‘Grace’, debuted at No. 86 on teh Apple Music Jamaica daily chart, and peaked at No. 17 in Grenada.

‘Grace (Brought Me Here)’ talks heavily about the goodness of God and the ups and downs of life, with invited guests such as Lucas Musiq (“Grace”), Jeannie Ortega (“Carry Me – Spanish Edition”), and Bounty Killer (“Call Him”) as well as his daughter, Amanda Downswell. Here is the worship you can jump around and get crunk to, from reggae to soca to dancehall and more.

‘The Shift’, on the other hand, was born out of the desire to have a worship session at a studio one weekend while Downswell’s voice was in recuperation mode. It turned into a full-on live worship session, each track seamlessly flowing into the next, with some familiar songs here and there. If you’re looking for that deep, meditative outpouring of the spirit, this is your collection.
