Short Film: ‘Dig Your Own Grave’ by Anouvue Collective

This 7-min short film, recently released by Anouvue Collective, is a very interesting watch. From the start, you are immediately captivated by the urgency of the situation. You move to the edge of your seat without realizing it, hoping intently that something doesn’t go wrong. Only, it already has.

This film, available on their YouTube page, is definitely worth watching. The professionalism of the actors, the rich colours of the scenery, the very frequency that everyone seems to be connected to is worth taking note of. You get the idea that new films can rise out of Jamaica, and not all of them have to be connected to gangs and political corruption and drugs. We can also include matters of heart and home. Like the users in the comments, I too look forward to a continuation of a story which has only barely begun to be told.

The actors in the film were Maya Wilkinson, Rudolph “Rudy” Tomlinson and Emma Lewis. Voice actors included Cleo Anderson, Desmond Dennis and Kalia Ellis. The film was written, directed and produced by Jesane “Marz” Jackson. Direction of photography, editing and colouring is credited to Darren Scott, and assistant director Kevin Jackson. The production co-ordinator was Oyoka Richards. Mark Lecky handled the VFX/Grip, with Dennis Fyffe on 1st AC and Dwight Taylor on 2nd AC.

Makeup/Sfx was done by Nicole Bryan, and the sound recordist was David Osborne. Other credits include sound engineer Wentworth Kelly, gaffer operator Troy Forrest, camera PA Selah Mchail, Julia Bras for BTS photography, equipment driver  Scyeion Henry, acting coach Desmond Dennis, Robin A. Chin for lighting equipment, Clinton R. Smith for operating the prop gun and The Lab for providing G&E Equipment.
